However, the decline of these clubs over time led to a lull in the city’s football culture.

While the state government hasn’t historically owned clubs, the city’s vibrant business environment has drawn private investors keen on revitalising the sport. With the return of Ikorodu City, Inter Lagos, and Sporting Lagos, the city is poised to reclaim its place as a major football hub, reigniting old rivalries and passions.
